Poetry Quilt
Eighth graders learned that simple objects can be invaluable due to the memories they are associated with. We held class discussions about thing we find important, surveyed the class, and read poems about family quilts. The poems illustrated the significance of family quilts. From the scraps of clothing used to the time spent designing them, and the warmth they provided, students were able to truly appreciate the symbolism in this precious object. So, we decided to create our own class quilt made of poems we wrote about precious objects in our lives. Students also added extra quilt patches with pictures that accencuate their poems. After drawing, and gluing elements of our individual quilt pieces, we laminated them, hole punched them, and tied them together.
