Tabloid Writing

Recently we started our unit on the American gothic period, specifically the work of the late great Edgar Allan Poe. Before delving into his work, we conducted research, read biographical articles, and watched a documentary on his life. Taking our newly found knowledge, we created tabloid articles based on the mysteries surrounding his death. In addition to other positions, he was a gossip columnist after all!

The three articles featured each have a different theory. The first (Broken Heart) states that he died of a broken heart due to the loss of Virginia Clemens and the women before her. The Casket article reports that he died of health issues stemming from alcoholism. The Tragedy article claims he was actually murdered by Virginia after she found out that he faked her death for insurance money. The tenth graders' imaginations ran wild!
